More details

Here at Battersea, our Cattery Team is responsible for delivering the highest standards of animal welfare and care for every cat in their journey through Battersea, from a calm and compassionate intake, to providing feline friendly care whilst they are onsite, and to rehoming them to loving new homes.

We are seeking a new Rehoming & Welfare Coordinator to join our Brands Hatch team, to provide exceptional standards of welfare for the cats in our care, as well as to provide exceptional customer service within our intake and rehoming remits to effectively coordinate the smooth and expeditious journey of cats through Battersea. This is a very meaningful role where you will work directly with the cats, impacting their lives.

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone with experience of working with cats, strong customer service skills, and experience of dealing with sensitive issues with empathy and resilience.

Please note that this is a part-time opportunity and is based at our Brands Hatch centre.

What we can offer you:

In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:
• 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year
• Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes
• Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources
• Generous pension contributions – up to 10% employer contribution
• Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year
• Annual interest-free season ticket loans

We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.

Working with our dogs and cats:

We are here for every dog and cat. Within our animal facing operational roles, this means providing the highest level of care and husbandry to our animals. The scenarios we face can be different every day and will involve working with dogs and cats who have complex behaviour or health conditions. The role can be incredibly rewarding, however there are elements to the role that can be extremely emotional and can involve difficult conversations surrounding euthanasia decisions. Battersea has created an ethos of open conversations and carefully curated wellbeing initiatives to support our employees in handling these situations, but we would ask all to very carefully consider their application with this in mind.

We have a duty of care for our animals and our employees and need to ensure that both the animals in our care and our employees are safe and cared for. This is a physically demanding role, so if you have any detailed questions or concerns about the day-to-day requirements of this role, a member of our team would be happy to discuss this with you. Please reach out via jobs@battersea.org.uk.

Diversity and inclusion:

We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all staff, volunteers and trustees and those hoping to join us. We operate an anonymised shortlisting process and actively seek to ensure our process is fair and equitable for all.

We understand the value of diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to help us deliver even more for our dogs and cats, and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community.

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we will ask about any adjustments you may need at application and/or interview stage, and if you are offered a role with us, we’ll talk to you about any workplace adjustments you may need to help you perform at your best. If you would like to talk more about this, please contact jobs@battersea.org.uk or call us on 020 3887 8341.

More about us:

At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love, expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them. Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
